TREES IN THE POND AT SHANTOK

RECENTLY WHILE WALKING ON THW WALK AT SHANTOK, I NOTICED TWO TREES THAT HAD FALLEN DOWN IN SHANTOK POND.

I NOTIFIED ONE OF THE TRIBAL COUNCILORS ABOUT IT. HE SAID HE WOULD DO WHAT HE COULD. TWO WEEKS WENT BY AND THE TREES WERE STILL THERE. SO I APROACHED THE COUNCILOR AGAIN HE SAID HE WOULD AGAIN SEE WHAT HE COULD DO. TWO WEEKS LATER I APROACHED HIM ABOUT IT AGAIN. HE SAID PUBLIC WORKS SAID THEY COULD NOT GET BIG ENOUGH MACHINARY NEEDED TO DO THE JOB DOWN THERE. HE AND I BOTH THOUGHT THAT A PERSON STANDING IN SOMEWHERE BETWEEN SIX INCHES AND A FOOT OF WATER, COULD STAND IN THE WATER AND USE A CHAIN SAW TO CUT THE TREES UP.

IF PUBLIC WORKS CAN NOT DO IT, AND I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY, THEN WHY NOT CONTRACT IT OUT AND HAVE A LANDSCAPE COMPANY DO IT?

I MENTIONED ABOUT THE TREES TO OTHER TRIBAL MEMBERS AND THEY THINK THEY HAVE BEEN DOWN FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS. I REALLY DO NOT KNOW HOW LONG BUT IT HAS BEEN SOME TIME.

WE SPENT A LOT OF MONEY, INTO THE MILLIONS TO ENLARGE THE POND . MONEY TO PUT A LINER AND SAND IN THE POND. MONEY TO BUILD A DAMN, WATERFALL, BRIDGES AND A WALKWAY FOR THE TRIBE AND THE PUBLIC TO ENJOY SHANTOK.

SO WHY CAN NOT THE TRIBAL COUNCIL GET TWO TREES OUT OF THE POND?

EDITORIAL NOTE: THE SAME TRIBAL COUNCILOR THAT I ASKED ABOUT THE TREES WAS ALSO ASKED ABOUT THE RUTS IN THE WALKWAY AT SHANTOK WHICH HE DID A GOOD JOB AND GOT FIXED.

I hadn't heard there were trees fallen into the pond...had they eroded out of the embankment? or were they blown in by an ill-fated wind
I'm glad that we have someone who notices when things aren't right and makes others aware of the problem...sometimes that is what it takes to get things done. Natinihak
