THE ECONOMIC STATE OF THE CASINOS IN CONNECTICUT

SLOT MACHINE PAYMENTS MADE BY THE MOHEGAN SUN AND FOXWOOD RESORTS CASINO TO THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 2008 WAS DOWN NINETEEN MILLION DOLLARS FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR.

AT THE END OF JUNE CASINO REVENUE AT MOHEGAN SUN SLOTS WAS DOWN A LITTLE UNDER NINE PERCENT. FOXWOOD RESORTS CASINO WITH THE OPENING OF THE MGM GRAND AT FOXWOODS WAS OFF A LITTLE UNDER NINE PERCENT FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR.

IT HAS BEEN REPORTED THAT THE MID DAY WEEK TRIPS FROM NEW YORK TO THE MOHEGAN SUN HAS SEEN A DROP IN BUSINESS.

TWIN RIVERS IN RHODE ISLAND SEEMS TO BE CASHING IN ON CUSTOMERS FROM RHODE ISLAND AND MASSACHUSETTS THAT USED TO GAMBLE AT THE CONNECTICUT CASINOS.

WITH HIGHER GAS PRICES , PEOPLE MAYBE NOT HAVING FAITH IN AN EARLY ECONOMIC RECOVERY COULD BE HAVING A NEGATIVE EFFECT ON CASINO EARNINGS.

WILL OUR PATRONS AT THE MOHEGAN SUN CONTINUE TO PATRONAGE US OR WILL THEY SEEK CLOSER GAMBLING VENUES IN NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY AND RHODE ISLAND? WHAT HAPPENS WHEN AND IF MASSACHUSETTS OPENS CASINOS THERE?

CLYDE BARROW, THE DIRECTOR OF OF THE CENTER FOR POLICY ADJUSTMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS, DARTMOUTH, IS QUOTED AS SAYING "I WOULDN'T SAY WE' VE HIT THE BOTTOM YET.'

JEFF HARTMAN, CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER OT THE MOHEGAN TRIBE GAMING AUTHORITY SAID 'I'M NOT AN EONOMIST, BUT WE PROBABLY HAVE ANOTHER YEAR TO WORK THROUGH THIS."
