HOUSING AUTHORITY MEETING

ON WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 10, 2008, AT 5:00 P.M. AT FORT HILL ELDER HOUSING, THERE WILL BE THE MONTHLY HOUSING AUTHORITY MEETING (SECOND WEDNESDAY EVERY MONTH.)

ON THE AGENDA SHOULD BE THE QUESTION OF THE CLAUSE IN FORT HILL LEASES THAT SAYS A TENANT CAN NOT LEAVE A VISITOR IN THE TENANT'S APARTMENT ALONE. THE FORT HILL TENANT ASSOCIATION WAS PROMISED BY LOUIS ZEIGLER THAT HE WOULD BRING THIS MATTER BEFORE THE HOUSING AUTHORITY.

THAT CLAUSE STATES THAT THE TENANT CAN NOT LEAVE A VISITOR ALONE IN THE TENANTS APARTMENT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. THE TENANT WANTS TO LEAVE HER ADULT DAUGHTER IN THE APARTMENT SLEEPING AND GO GET SOME MILK, IF SHE LEAVES HER DAUGHTER IN HER APARTMENT SHE VIOLATES HER LEASE.
THE TENANT CAN NOT GO TO THE CASINO WITHOUT MAKING THE VISITOR LEAVE AT THE SAME TIME. UNDER THE LEASE YOU CAN NOT EVEN LEAVE THE VISITOR IN THE APARTMENT AND GO TO SOME OTHER PLACE IN THE BUILDING WITH OUT EITHER TAKING THE VISITOR WITH YOU OR MAKING THEM LEAVE.

EACH TENANT HAS INSURANCE FOR THEIR APARTMENTS AND ARE LEGALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR WHATEVER HAPPENS IN THEIR APARTMENTS.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, DO I BELIEVE THAT CHILDREN UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE SHOULD BE LEFT IN THE APARTMENTS ALONE. THAT WOULD BE CHILD ABUSE.

SOMEONE BROUGHT UP THE IDEA OF A POSSIBLE FIRE. THAT IS ABSURD. IF YOU HAVE EVER VISITED FORT HILL , YOU KNOW HOW SENSITIVE THE FIRE ALARMS ARE. TENANTS HAVE SET OFF THE ALARMS JUST TAKING SHOWERS. THE LITTLEST AMOUNT OF SMOKE AND THE ALARMS GO OFF.

THERE IS NO OTHER PLACE WHERE THIS CLAUSE EXISTS. OTHER TENANTS LIVING IN HOUSING ON THE RESERVATION DO NOT HAVE THIS CLAUSE. THIS CLAUSE IS A VIOLATION OF OUR CIVIL RIGHTS AND THE NATIVE AMERICAN CIVIL RIGHTS ACT. IT VIOLATES THE BILL OF RIGHTS. IT VIOLATES THE CONSTITUTION OF THE MOHEGAN TRIBE. IT VIOLATES THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION.

THE CLAUSE SHOULD BE TAKEN OUT OF THE LEASES. IF NOT, I BELIEVE IT SHOULD STATE IN THE LEASES THAT "AN ADULT VISITOR MAY BE LEFT IN THE APARTMENT ALONE BUT MAY NOT LEAVE THE APARTMENT. " '

I THINK THAT BEFORE THE HOUSING AUTHORITY MEETS ON WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 10, 2008, THAT THEY SHOULD CONSULT THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT OF THE MOHEGAN TRIBE AND GET A LEGAL BRIEFING.

THE FORT HILL ELDER HOUSING BUILDING DOES NOT BELONG TO THE HOUSING AUTHORITY, IT BELONGS TO THE MOHEGAN PEOPLE. THE RESERVATION, THE CASINO, EVEN THE GOVERNMENT BUILDING BELONG TO THE MOHEGAN PEOPLE. THE GOVERNMENT HAS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF TAKING CARE OF THESE THINGS ON BEHALF OF THE MOHEGAN PEOPLE.

THE WISHES AND DESIRES THAT MOHEGAN PEOPLE THAT LIVE IN FORT HILL ELDER HOUSING NEED TO BE ADDRESSED. AS A WISE SAGAMORE SAID, IT IS THE MOHEGAN PEOPLES' BUILDING. THE TENANTS SHOULD HAVE A SAY IT WHAT THEY WANT.

TO THE HOUSING AUTHORITY, PLEASE FIX THIS UNFAIR CLAUSE IN THE TENANTS' LEASES?
