I RECENTLY WENT TO A RANGER STATION IN CONNECTICUT, TO DO THE RESEARCH FOR THIS STORY. I AM NOT AGAINST PEOPLE HUNTING OR HAVING GUNS, ALTHOUGH IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO HAVE THEM OR CARRY THEM ON THE MOHEGAN RESERVATION.
LAST YEAR AND PREVIOUS YEARS THE RESIDENTS AT FORT HILL EDLER HOUSING HAVE HEARD SINGLE GUNS SHOTS DURING THE DAY. WITH ONE SHOT FIRED, THE PEOPLE SAY, WHERE DID THE SHOT COME FROM?
BOW SEASON STARTS SEPTEMBER 15, 2008. BIRD SEASON STARTS OCTOBER 18, 2008 WHEN HUNTERS CAN SHOOT TURKEYS, PHEASANT AND DUCKS.
DEER SEASON STARTS NOVEMBER 1, 2008 THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 2008.
HERE IS WHAT ALLEGEDLY SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING, INSTEAD OF WAITING FOR DEER SEASON, POUCHERS ARE GOING IN THROUGH THE BACK INTO THE AREA OF THE POWER STATION BEHIND FORT HILL ELDER HOUSING. THEY DO THIS WHEN BIRD SEASON IS ON SO IF YOU HEAR A GUN SHOT YOU THINK SOMEONE IS BIRD HUNTING. IT IS BELIEVED WHAT THEY ARE REALLY DOING IS SHOOTING A DEER, WITH ONE SHOT SO PEOPLE CAN NOT FIGURE FROM WHERE THE SHOT CAME FROM. THEY THEN WE THINK DRAG THE DEER OUT TO ONE OF THE SIDE STREETS AND TAKE THE DEER AWAY.
THIS IS THE SPECULATION WE GOT FROM SOME INSIDERS. THE RANGERS DID CONFIRM THESE KINDS OF THINGS ARE INDEED HAPPENING, ALTHOUGH THEY DID NOT KNOW FOR SURE IF IT WAS HAPPENING IN UNCASVILLE -FORT HILL AREA.
IF THIS INDEED HAPPENING BY THE POWER STATION, WHAT ABOUT COCHEGAN ROCK?
I THINK THESE ALLEGED ACTS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND THAT MAYBE TRIBAL POLICE AND SECURITY SHOULD BE CHECKING THIS AREA MORE. IT WAS REPORTED ALLEGEDLY THAT SEVERAL MONTHS AGO THAT COPPER WAS STOLEN FROM THIS VERY POWER STATION.
THAT ALSO BRINGS US TO ANOTHER PROBLEM, IT SEEMS EVERYTIME WE CHECK OUT COCHEGAN ROCK, WE NEVER SEE SECURITY PROTECTING IT LIKE WE AGREED TO WITH THE BOY SCOUTS. WHAT ABOUT LIABILITY, HOW ARE WE GOING TO KEEP PEOPLE FROM GETTING HURT THERE?
SO IF YOU HEAR A SINGLE GUN SHOT, THINK THIS , PLEASE DON' T KILL BAMBI?

You have written something about this twice and Thank You. In fact, I have written on My Space Front Page in the About me section, About my love for animals... And being that I live on the Rez... I mention that one morning, while having my coffee, I noticed a mother and baby deer, sitting under a big pine in my back yard. And how I thought, How I should be quiet so that they could stay and rest for a while. I was thinking about how lucky I was that they would consider me and my yard safe enuff to sit in for respite, the poor things, after all, this entire area is populated by new construction, but my yard still FEELS like the country. So when they left, I thought, OH, I'll never see them again, I sent my prayers with them for their safety. Well, low and behold, not about three weeks later, THERE they were! Just hanging out in my back yard again. I felt so lucky, but again sad. SO, yes, this isn't the place for hunting them. There is plenty of country out there in the big old US of A for hunters to go... Please, leave what is left of this family of deer on the Reservation ALONE! Great article and Thank you for posting it! Tabutni!
