UNCASVILLE - The Connecticut Sun stayed alive in the WNBA playoff race Friday night with an 88-85 overtime victory over the New York Liberty at Mohegan Sun Arena.
The Sun (15-17) snapped a five-game losing streak behind 23 points from Anete Jekabsone-Zogota and 19 from Amber Holt.
The Liberty (12-19), who knocked the Sun from the playoffs in the first round last season, were officially eliminated from this year's postseason with the loss.
The Liberty blew a 73-64 lead with 4:50 to play in regulation. Their leading scorer, Shameka Christon (22), made a 60-foot shot just after the buzzer that would have ended the game.
EDITORIAL FOOTNOTE: 15 wins and 17 losses is not a very good record. The Sun are barely alive with their record. It is not even .500 basketball. It is a losing record.
Could it be that the Connecticut Sun really doesn't deserve to make the playoffs? Yes, any team can beat any team on any given night in professional sports, but does Sun have what it takes to win it all?
Can the coach turn this around? Has the Sun turned the corner? Did they barely win this one? What do you think?
