CHAIRMAN BRUCE "TWO DOGS" BOZSUM AND CHUCK BUNNELL, CHIEF OF STAFF OF THE MOHEGAN TRIBE WENT TO HARTFORD YESTERDAY. JANUARY 8, 2009. THEY MET WITH RICHARD BLUMENTHAL, THE ATTORNEY GENERAL OF CONNECTICUT ABOUT THE POSSIBLE PLAN THE MOHEGAN TRIBAL GOVERNMENT HAD NEGOTIATED WITH GOVERNOR M. JODI RELL.
THE PLAN, SUPPOSEDLY WORKED OUT BETWEEN THE MOHEGAN TRIBAL GOVERNMENT AND GOVERNOR M. JODI RELL, CALLS FOR BANNING SMOKING THROUGH OUT THE MOHEGAN SUN, EXCEPT IN GAMING AREAS IN WHICH TWENTY (20%) PERCENT WILL BE NON-SMOKING..
BLUMENTHAL SAID THAT THE PLAN BY THE MOHEGAN TRIBE TO LIMIT SMOKING AND SECOND HAND SMOKE WAS, "A VERY POSITIVE STEP FORWARD." bLUMENTHAL STILL WANTS ULTIMATELY A COMPLETE BAN ON SMOKING IN BOTH CONNECTICUT CASINOS. HE STATED THAT HE HOPES BOTH CASINOS WILL IMPLEMENT THE PLAN EVEN WITHOUT THE LEGISLATION.
OF THE PLAN, THE ATTORNEY GENERAL SAID, "IT WILL INCORPORATE THE CONCEPT EMBODIED IN THIS AGREEMENT OF A PHASED SERIES OF STEPS TOWARD A SMOKE-FREE ENVIRONMENT."
CHAIRMAN BOZSUM, TOOK THE INTUITIVE AND CALLED THE ATTORNEY GENERAL ON WEDNESDAY AND SCHEDULED THE MEETING TO INFORM HIM OF THE PLAN. BRUCE "TWO DOGS" BOZSUM SAID, " I GAVE HIM (BLUMENTHAL) A CALL AND ASKED IF I COULD COME UP. HE KNEW WE (GOVERNOR RELL AND THE MOHEGAN TRIBAL GOVERNMENT) HAD BEEN TALKING BUT HE WAS UNAWARE OF THE AGREEMENT. I JUST WANTED TO GIVE HIM SOME MORE INFORMATION AND LET HIM KNOW HOW WE FELT ABOUT IT. IT WAS VERY INFORMAL."
CHAIRMAN BOZSUM (ANY MEMBER OF THE TRIBAL COUNCIL INVOLVED) AND CHUCK BUNNELL SHOULD BE CONGRATULATED FOR TAKING THE INITIATIVE. GOOD JOB. IT WAS A GOOD DAY FOR MOHEGANS. WHAT DO YOU THINK?
