FORD ESCAPE SUV HYBRID

WE RECENTLY DID AN ARTICLE ENTITLED "POLICE CAR BURNS AT TRADING COVE." WE DID SOME RESEARCH. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE FORD ESCAPE HYBRID HAD SOME KIND OF SHORT AND THAT SOME OF THE WIRES HAD BURNED ON THE CAR.

WE HAVE TALKED TO PEOPLE THAT RIDE IN THE DIFFERENT KINDS OF CARS THAT WE HAVE HAD OVER THE YEARS. THE KINDS OF CARS THAT WE HAVE USED FOR THE SECURITY AND POLICE AND OTHER DEPARTMENTS HAVE BEEN FORD TAURUS, CHEVROLET MALIBUS, AND JEEP SPORT CHEROKEES.

MOST OF THE VEHICLES, WE ARE TOLD ENDED UP NOT PERFORMING AS WELL AS NEEDED FOR 24/7 (24 HOURS A DAY 7 DAYS A WEEK.) THE JEEP SPORT CHEROKEES A MORE BEEFED UP VEHICLE THAN REGULAR PASSENGER CARS, SEEMED TO MUCH BETTER THAN THE CHEVROLETS AND FORDS. IN FACT WE ARE TOLD SOME OF THE JEEPS ACTUALLY WENT TO ABOUT 150,000 (ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOUSAND) MILES.

ON THE OTHER HAND, POLICE CRUISERS HAVE LARGER MOTORS, BEEFED UP TRANSMISSIONS, HEAVY DUTY ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS, ETC. THE VEHICLES THAT WE ARE USING FOR SECURITY AND POLICE ARE REGULAR PASSENGER VEHICLES NEVER DESIGNED TO DO WHAT THEY ARE BEING EXPECTED TO DO.

THAT IS A PROBLEM. WHY ARE WE DOING THIS? WHO IS SUGGESTING THAT THE GOVERNMENT BUY THESE VEHICLES? I THINK WHOEVER IS PROPOSING THAT WE BUY THESE VEHICLES SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. WE SHOULD BE BUYING CARS AND TRUCKS THAT ARE DESIGNED AND MANUFACTURED TO DO THE JOB.

brokenwing,
might want to add in the danger factor again on the hybrids with the 300 volt battery. Seems like a bad tradeoff ... trading safety of our security people to look more green? After one of them gets shocked ... they'll certainly look green.
