FORMER MOHEGAN SUN WORKER IS SPARED JAIL TIME

ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 8, 2009, IN NEW LONDON SUPERIOR COURT, A FORMER WORKER AT THE MOHEGAN SUN CASINO, ACCUSED OF STEALING $30 THOUSAND ($30,000.000 IN GIFT CARDS, WAS SPARED JAIL TIME.

CARMEN NUNEZ, 26, ALLEGEDLY PLACED AN ORDER FOR 60 GIFT CARDS VALUED AT FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($500.00) EACH FOR HIGH ROLLERS OF THE CASINO.

NUNEZ'S BOSS, SAW THE PAPER WORK FOR THE $30 THOUSAND IN GIFT CARDS., SHE THOUGHT IT WAS A MISTAKE AND NOTIFIED THE ACCOUNTING DEPARTMENT OF THE ERROR.

NUNEZ, WHO WAS IN A CLERICAL POSITION TO ASSIST HIGH ROLLERS, TOLD POLICE SHE WAS STRUGGLING TO RAISE HER SON AFTER THE BREAKUP OF A DOMESTIC PARTNERSHIP.

NUNEZ SUPPOSEDLY USED, THE GIFT CARDS TO GO SHOPPING, PAY BILLS, BUY GROCERIES, AND PURCHASE GASOLINE. IT IS ALLEGED THAT SHE PAID ABOUT $1,500.00 TO THE NORWICH PUBLIC UTILITIES AND $352.00 TO THE ELECTRIC COMPANY FROM THE GIFT CARDS.

NUNEZ RECEIVED A THREE (3) YEAR SUSPENDED SENTENCE AND FIVE (5) YEARS PROBATION.
