INDIANAPOLIS — Tammy Sutton-Brown had 14 points and 14 rebounds to help the Indiana Fever beat the Connecticut Sun, 67-53, Thursday night and win a franchise-record seventh game in a row.
The Fever held Connecticut scoreless for the first 4:37 of the second half during an 11-0 run to take control. Connecticut didn’t make a field goal until 4:40 remained in the quarter.“I just think this was two teams that play similar styles of defense, and they were better at it tonight we were,” Sun coach Mike Thibault said. “We shot poorly. Part of it is them, part of it was us.”
Katie Douglas scored 14 points and Tamika Catchings and Ebony Hoffman each scored 10 for Indiana (7-2), which has the WNBA’s best record.Lindsay Whalen scored 11 points and Asjha Jones added 10 for the Sun (4-4), whose three-game winning streak ended.
“We’ve been talking about starting better, and tonight was a setback,’ Whalen said. “We got ourselves into big holes to start each half, and the second half we were never able to get back out of it.”Sutton-Brown had 10 points and 11 rebounds in the first half to help Indiana take a 37-30 lead at halftime.
EDITORIAL FOOTNOTE: Four wins and four losses. Does Mike Thibault have the pulse of the team? It is still early in the season, but we (the Connecticut Sun fans), need our team to play better. What do you think?
