ON WEDNESDAY MORNING, FEBRUARY 4, 2009, THREE GROUPS OF MOHEGAN TRIBAL MEMBERS WENT TO THE MOHEGAN TRIBAL GOVERNMENT BUILDING TO SEE THEIR GOVERNMENT IN ACTION.
THE THREE GROUPS TOTALED FIVE PEOPLE, ALLEGEDLY ASKED AT THE FRONT DESK TO GO TO THE OPEN SESSION. THE RECEPTIONIST, REPORTEDLY CALLED DOWN TO THE TRIBAL COUNCIL OFFICE AREA, AND ASKED IF A MEETING WAS ON. THE REPLY WAS NO THERE WAS NO MEETING;.
AFTER NOT GOING TO THE MEETING, THE EDITOR OF THE FEATHER NEWS WAS OUTSIDE THE MAIN LOBBY OF THE GOVERNMENT BUILDING TALKING TO A FELLOW TRIBAL MEMBER, WHEN OUT WALKED A FORMER MEMBER OF THE COUNCIL OF ELDERS, WHO ASKED HOW COME THE EDITOR OF THE FEATHER NEWS MISSED THE OPEN SESSION. THERE HAD BEEN AN OPEN SESSION AND FIVE TRIBAL MEMBERS WHO SHOWED UP TO BE THERE MISSED THE MEETING.
WHEN THE FEATHER NEWS ENQUIRED, LATER IN THE DAY, ABOUT THE MISCOMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE RECEPTIONIST AND THE WORKER FOR THE TRIBAL COUNCIL, THE ALLEGED EXCUSE WAS THAT THEY WERE BEING ASKED ABOUT A COFFEE HOUR. THAT IS NOT WHAT THE TRIBAL MEMBERS WHO WERE DENIED ACCESS ASKED TO GO TO. THEY HAD ASKED TO GO TO THE OPEN SESSION.
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED? DOES ANYONE KNOW? WHAT DO YOU THINK?
EDITORIAL FOOTNOTE: ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THERE WAS A SPECIAL MEETING HELD BY THE GOVERNMENT TO ANSWER GOVERNMENT WORKERS CONCERNS. IT WAS REPORTED THAT ONLY FOUR OF THE NINE TRIBAL COUNCILORS ATTENDED.

I was one of those who went in at 10 and asked the back desk to let me in to the Tribal Council meeting, I didn't say anything about coffee hour. The security guard proceded to call the front desk to see if it was being held and he was told no. I felt it was just a miscommunication but then was it??? This not being able to trust people is not a good feeling. I was just trying to do the right thing and go collect some info.
all caps equals shouting!!!
